2011 Chevrolet Volt officially unveiled

The much-anticipated production version of the Chevrolet Volt has finally been officially unveiled! The Volt uses the electricity to travel up to 40 miles and when the battery is empty, then a gasoline powered engine generator provides the electricity needed while simultaneously sustaining the engine. The Chevrolet Volt can be re-charged into a standard household 120v outlet or use 240v. The charging takes about eight hours on a 120v outlet and less than three hours on a 240v outlet.

According to the manufacturer ” the Volt will cost about two cents per mile to drive while under battery power compared to 12 cents per mile using gasoline priced at $3.60 per gallon. For an average driver who drives 40 miles per day (or 15,000 miles per year), this amounts to a cost savings of $1,500 annually. Using peak electric rates, GM estimates that an electrically driven mile in a Chevy Volt will be about one-sixth of the cost of a conventional gasoline-powered vehicle. The cost savings are even greater when charging during off-peak hours, when electric rates are cheaper.”

Chevrolet Orlando Concept unveiled before the Paris Motor Show

Although the Paris Motor Show is in October, GM couldn’t wait and unveiled today the Chevrolet Orlando, a new concept based on the recently announced all-new Cruze compact sedan. The new vehicle has a muscular stance that gives it the appearance of a sport utility vehicle, yet it offers dynamic ride and handling, excellent fuel efficiency and easy entry thanks to its car-based architecture. At the interior, Orlando is designed to meet the needs of families and those who need plenty of seating capacity with adaptable, theater-style seating in three rows comfortably accommodating up to seven occupants. More details after the jump!

In our opinion the design doesn’t let us speechless but having in consideration that this is a ”green” car we can get over it because the most important thing is what the car can do for Mother Earth. Now, what’s your opinion?

Spy photos: Chevrolet Volt Interior

Some network errors caused General Motors a flood of interesting shoots with the new Chevy Volt, mostly shoots of interior production. We can observe a display panel that seems to be a preview of the vehicle and a plane console with no buttons, entirely white. Apparently the controls are touch sensitive and the console is flanked by flush air vents making a contrast with the black dash panel. The information display keeps the “range extending” engine and the lithium-ion batteries linked. Now we just have to wait for an official reveal of the car to confirm the appearance.
